March 20, 2009, Newsletter Issue #184: Tanning Industry Regulations

Tip of the Week

The indoor tanning industry is regulated by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). You can find a guide to the FDA regulations that apply to the indoor tanning industry by visiting the FDA's Web site and searching on "tanning compliance." You can find information on the types of claims the FTC considers false and misleading by visiting its Web site and searching on "tanning regulations." You should also check with your state's office of the secretary of state to see what licensing and registration requirements apply as well as what local oversight you may or may not be subject to.
