January 30, 2009, Newsletter Issue #178: Effect of Climate on Tanning

Tip of the Week

Climate can most definitely affect the tanning process, assuming you are tanning outdoors. That's because, depending on your geographic location and the time of year, the intensity of the sun's rays, which emit the ultraviolet light that promotes tanning, varies. People in countries closest to the equator tend to have deep, dark tans year round while those who live in northern climates subject to extreme winter conditions are pasty looking for much of the year. If you choose to tan indoors using a commercial tanning bed or a home tanning bed, climate is irrelevant since you regulate the frequency and duration of your exposure to UV light.
