Do federal regulations make indoor tanning safer?

Federal Regulations

Today, tanning bed bulbs and other devices are regulated as class II medical devices by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). These two agencies work together to ensure that all indoor tanning beds and booths comply with federally mandated specifications, including the amount and type of light emitted, labeling information, and advertising claims. This ensures that tanning device manufacturers and salon owners are all adhering to the same standards, which means you are less likely to fall prey to unscrupulous, dishonest, or unsafe practices or equipment when tanning.
