Your skin produces melanin, which provides some natural protection against burning. However, your lips do not produce melanin. While it's not legally required that you wear lip protection when tanning indoors, it's to your advantage to take care of your kisser. There are a bunch of lip balms on the market today that include sunscreen. Most of the affordable ones provide just as much protection and moisturizing benefit as the name-brand, top-dollar ones. Low-end or high, pick up a lip balm with sun protection, and use it every time you tan.
